Bucket of compost harvested from Manoa Elementary School Zero Waste Initiative

Compost Fundraiser, 11.11.2021

Update (November 11, 2021): We are truly grateful for the support of the community. Stay tuned and subscribe for the next compost fundraiser.

The Manoa Elementary School Zero Waste Initiative project has produced finished compost which is available as a fundraiser. The proceeds will benefit Manoa Elementary School’s Sustainability program.

Prior to the pandemic, Manoa Elementary School collected and processed 23,058 pounds of food and milk waste in 2019-2020 – that’s 11.5 tons!  One hundred percent was composted in hot compost piles behind the campus next to the community garden.

With the help of the Windward Zero Waste School Hui led by Mindy Jaffe, we harvested the compost piles from last school year which yielded approximately 100 cubic feet of dark, nutrient-rich compost!
